Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest

The Institute of Christ the King is a society of apostolic life approved by Rome and canonically erected in 1990. Its goal is the glory of God and the sanctification of priests in the service of the Church and souls through doctrinal and spiritual formation.

At the urging of members of the priestly fraternity Opus Sacerdotale, an association of conservative French priests founded in the aftermath of the Second Vatican Council, Msgr. Gilles Wach formed a society of apostolic life which would guarantee a solid and traditional formation for priestly vocations. This institute was approved in Rome and canonically erected under the auspices of the Congregation of Religious in 1990.
Subsequently Msgr. Wach received permission from the Commission Ecclesia Dei to use the liturgical books according to the Vatican Typical Edition of 1962 . The Institute of Christ the King uses the Traditional Latin Mass exclusively.
