Bishop of Wheeling-Charleston, West Virginia Gives Permission for the Traditional Latin Mass

Permission was given for an indult Mass in Charleston, W.Va., in the Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart. The indult is for a period of one year beginning on April 2, 2006. I don't know if the First Mass will be after Easter, as your report states.

Permission to celebrate the Mass was given to Monsignor P. Edward Sadie, both personally and as Rector of the Co-Cathedral of the diocese. It is limited to the co-cathedral in Charleston.

The diocese of Wheeling-Charleston covers the entire state of W. Va., though Bishop Michael J. Bransfield is based in Wheeling. Apparently both Wheeling and Charleston are considered equally as seats of the diocese.

Hence the dual names and the "co-cathedral" designation.

Una Voce America extends our thanks to Bishop Bransfield, and our prayers for the success of the traditional Mass in Wheeling-Charleston.
